That’s because Boston has several different options available for getting your lost passport replaced in the required timeframe. Lost Passport Replacement at an Acceptance Facility

 

The most common method of replacing a lost passport is to apply in person at a passport acceptance facility. There are currently 7 of these scattered throughout Boston, mainly in post offices. You can find the nearest one here.

 

To get a new passport, you’ll need the following documents:

 

Proof of identity, such as your driver’s license or other government-issued photo ID. You’ll need both the original and a clear photocopy.

Proof of citizenship, such as your birth certificate, naturalization certificate or certificate of citizenship.

Once you’ve applied to replace your lost passport, you can expect to wait 6 weeks for the new passport to arrive in the mail if you’ve selected normal processing, and 3 weeks if you’ve selected expedited processing.

If you don’t have 3 weeks to wait, don’t worry! Boston is one of 21 cities in the US that is home to regional passport agency office.

This office can issue a passport within 24 hours if you have a travel emergency. In addition to the documents listed above, you’ll also need to bring a copy of your itinerary to prove that you intend to leave the country within the next 2 weeks.
