• Passport applications must accompany proof of citizenship in the form of birth certificate or naturalization certificate. Birth certificates can be obtained at vitalchek.com and naturalization certificates can be obtained at uscis.gov
• Proof of identity in the form of drivers license or state ID.
• One passport photo is needed which can be obtained in our office, Walgreens or CVS Pharmacy.

Once all the necessary documents have been gathered you can apply online, in person by walking in, or by making an appointment with The Passport Office of Orlando.

You cannot renew your passport if:

• Your passport expired over 5 years ago. If your passport expired over five years ago, you do not qualify to renew your passport. You would simply need to apply as a new passport applicant since you went beyond the passport renewable date.
• Your previous passport was issued as a child. If you were a child when your previous passport was issued, you don’t qualify for a passport renewal. There are two ways this can play out. If you are still a child you would have to apply as a child passport. On the other hand if you are an adult now and wish to convert your child passport to an adult passport you would need to apply as a new passport. I know, confusing right!?!
• Your passport is damaged. If your passport is severely damaged you cannot renew the passport and have to apply for a new passport. Oftentimes people find out the hard way that they can’t travel with a damaged passport at the airport. For passport emergencies like this we do accept walk-in applicants renewing their passport quickly, passport appointments are seen first.
• You do not have your passport in your possession. If you do not have your passport in hand when applying to renew a passport in Altamonte Springs, you are not able to renew your passport and have to apply like a lost or stolen passport. If possible, always present your previous passport for renewal since not submitting it counts against you.

Passport Tips

• 6 Month Rule. Many countries require at least 6 months validity on your passport. Now I know some people get confused on this one. This 6 month rule applies to the passport being close to expiring and not from the issue date. For example, if your passport expires in 4 months and you are traveling to Europe today, you will be denied boarding your flight. The European Union enforces the 6 month rule. Be careful! Very few but some countries require 3 months validity on your passport where others require the validity on your passport for the duration of your trip. You can check travel restrictions with the consulate or embassy of the country you are traveling to through the consulate or embassy.
• Visa Pages. For those of you that travel often, the last few pages in the back of your passport do not count as visa pages for those nifty little visa stamps. The visa pages that cannot be used are titled Amendment. If you run out of passport pages you will be denied boarding at your flight and will need to proceed to renew it.

Validity of Travel Visa.
If you have a travel valid visa inside your passport and the passport expires, for most countries the visa is still valid. You would simply travel with both your new passport and your expired passport for proof of validity of your passport and visa. Travel rules for the various 192 countries can change on a daily basis. Always reach out to the nearest consulate or embassy of your travel destination for the most update-to-date travel rules and laws.
