A passport isn&#8217;t required for domestic flights. You can fly with a valid driver&#8217;s license or other state-issued ID even while your passport is at the State Department for renewal. This applies only to travel within the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can you travel internationally?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No. You can&#8217;t travel internationally without your passport physically in hand. Airlines require a valid passport before they&#8217;ll let you board an international flight, and a receipt or confirmation that your renewal is processing isn&#8217;t a substitute. This is the most common way travelers get caught off guard by renewal timing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Common misunderstandings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;I have proof my renewal is processing, that should count.&#8221;<\/strong> It doesn&#8217;t. Airlines and border agents need the physical document, not a confirmation email or tracking number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;Processing times are guaranteed.&#8221;<\/strong> They&#8217;re not.
