Where you need to apply for a passport can depend on several factors, including urgency, age, and the condition of your existing passport. While some people can apply by mail, many applicants need to apply in person. Let’s talk about the different ways you can apply for a passport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apply By Mail<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you are getting a passport renewal, you should apply by mail. To qualify for renewal<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To qualify for a passport renewal by mail, you need to:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Have been 16 years or older when your last passport was issued.<\/li>
  2. Get your renewal within 15 years of your last passport’s issue date.<\/li>
  3. Have a passport that’s still in good condition.<\/li>
  4. If your name has changed, make sure you have the correct documents to prove it.<\/li>
  5. Apply on time, before your passport expires, or within five years.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    If you meet these requirements, you can fill out Form DS-82, include your old passport, a new photo, and the fee, and send it all in for renewal. Different states have different addresses to which to send their application. If your name has changed, make sure you have the correct documents to prove it, such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order.
